Heroes on Horses Program
The Talisman Heroes on Horses (HOH) Program represents a comprehensive approach that aims to improve the physical, mental, and emotional health of veterans, first responders, and law enforcement. Talisman is dedicated to increasing wellness and well-being of this group of men and women by providing equine-assisted therapeutic services with professionally trained staff, promoting awareness of the challenges faced, improving the understanding of military culture, and growing community awareness of suicide prevention in these industries. Participating in experiential exercises in a dynamic therapeutic environment is a natural intersection with this group, no matter what battles or encounters, emotionally or physically, they are still fighting.
The Talisman HOH Program assists in the reduction of the suicide rate in Maryland by providing equine-assisted therapeutic activities via retreat-based sessions, and the Therapeutic/Adaptive Horsemanship Lesson Program. Retreats are arranged through established partnerships and recognized veteran, first responder, and law enforcement entities, which ensure participants are eligible for the HOH Program. Individual lessons are arranged via the regular Therapeutic Horsemanship Lesson intake process.
- Talisman Heroes on Horses – a one-day retreat designed for six to ten members. The group flows through a scheduled program of exercises centered on strengthening mental and physical well-being.
